Seasonal Therapeutics- Winter Seminar Highlights

What a wonderful seminar! Last weekend's Seasonal Therapeutics Seminar was a great success. And the team really enjoyed putting together the event for everyone. Here is a recap of the seminar and some photos!

The purpose of the seminar series is to blend cutting edge science and integrative medicine together with the changes of the seasons. The Winter seminar focuses on how to optimize immunity and support a healthy mood. The primary focus during this season which is filled with influenza and other viral illnesses, is how to support the body in maintaining its resiliency. The shorter days experienced in the winter can contribute to lower vitamin D exposure and seasonal affective disorder. Its important to protect against fluctuations in mood and energy.

The winter seminar series showed us how to use evidence-based, targeted nutritional supplementation, essential oils and botanical remedies to optimize cell-mediated immune function, enhance mental clarity, maintain healthy mood and energy, and ensure restful sleep. Ways to incorporate seasonal changes to the diet to enhance resilience were covered and stress management strategies like meditation, breathe work and rest were discussed.

Light and mood and the role of vitamin D was discussed in depth, as was nutrition for optimal mood and immune support. And the practitioners broke into small teams to execute some group work.

We continue to enjoy sponsoring this event and we are excited to learn even more at the next seminar in the series: Seasonal Therapeutics: Spring - The Season of Renewal. The seminar will be held on February 23 in Boston and will focus on Purification and Allergies! Register now, because space is limited!

The food and scenery has been fantastic at these events so far! Please enjoy some photos from the day!

Connecting Farms to Consumers

Friday, November 16, 2012

We have been checking out this cool new local food movement website. Max Kane has created FarmMatch.com, a site used to connect farmers to consumers. Brought to our attention from the Food Freedom Group, you can enter your info and let the site match your farm needs to local farmers.

The site takes into account quality requirements like grass-fed or GMO-free and gets down to the nitty-gritty details of what types of products you're looking for. If you're interested in nuts, you can specify: macadamias, but not pecans.

Said Kane of his site, "We are doing what has never been done before. Everything on the internet offers food discovery and then stops. FarmMatch.com is a quad discovery system offering food, market, community, and voice discovery, all necessary to build community around food. The market discovery for farmers alone is priceless."

It also caters to restaurants. People looking to eat local can find offerings in their area. Joel Salatin praised the website, saying "A hurried, harried populace disconnected from food needs network facilitators and I haven't seen anything more comprehensive for accomplishing this than Max Kane's FarmMatch!"

Thousands of people have signed up for the website all over the world, but its looking a little sparse in our area near NH.  Try it out and let us know what you think!

The Great Pumpkin!

Thursday, November 1, 2012

A chiropractic assistant at a local office told us the secret to her families' Halloween success. Much like the Tooth Fairy, this family has implemented The Great Pumpkin into their Halloween tradition. No one wants their kids hoarding pillow cases full of candy as they head into the holiday season. But its also no fun to tell your kids they can't trick or treat with the other kids in the neighborhood.

The Gallant family eagerly anticipates a visit from the Great Pumpkin every year on Halloween night. Similar to the Switch Witch, this tradition leverages another type of surprise over the dreaded bag of candy. Little Derek Gallant, was nervous about a witch coming into the house and he loves Charlie Brown, so the Great Pumpkin was born. Allowed to keep some candy pieces, he may have one per day. He places the rest of his candy out for the Great Pumpkin before bed. When he wakes up, the Great Pumpkin has come and switched his candy for a great present. The more he gives to the Great Pumpkin, the better the gift! This year it was a starter science lab set!  He was super happy about it, as you can see.

Maybe something to think about in your house for next year!
